It
was 1991 and the owner of Riviera Country Club was in a bind. He was
searching for an artist to paint a portrait of that year's LA Nissan
Open winner. Having no clue where to turn, he contacted an art
professor at nearby Pasadena College of Design, The professor
recommended one of his former students, Scott Medlock..
Now it was Medlock who was in a bind.
"I had to bring a friend of mine who knew golf to the tournament,
because I didn't know anything about golf.", a track and field star
in high-school who had never touched a golf club. "I thought
the player who had the most number of strokes was in the lead."
Clearly,
Medlock was a fast study. His work so impressed the tournament
officials that they hired him to paint the winners for the next five
